New taste ! Menbei + Onion

I introduced " Menbei " before.
Menbei is the famous confection of Fukuoka.

I found the new taste of Menbei, so I introduce it, today.

This is it, Menbei + Onion.

The original Menbei is a rice cracker with seasoned cod roe.
This  Menbei + Onion is added fried onions.

The original Menbei has hot taste, but it hot taste.

I think that children can eat these Menbei.

Seijin no Hi

Tomorrow is Seijin no Hi.

Seijin no Hi means Coming of Age Day.
It is a Japanese national holiday to celebrate those who have newly become adults.
In Japan people come of age when we are 20 years old.

The coming-of-age ceremonies were held all over Japan.
Many people attend with kimonos at the coming of age ceremony.

I wore a kimono for a coming-of-age ceremony.
We don't have opportunities in kimonos, recently.
It is admiration of the Japanese girls to wear kimonos by the coming-of-age ceremony.

When we wear kimonos, we feel like tense.
It may be to be the first step as adult.

Any way,  congratulations for coming of age !!

Kagami biraki

Hello.
This is May in Japan.

Tomorrow is the day of Kagami biraki.

Kagami biraki means the custom of cutting and eating round rice cake.
This is an annual event on Japan.
We thank the gods and pray for perfect states of health and eat round rice cakes.

We cook sweet adzuki soup or zoni soup with round rice cakes and eat.
I like rice cakes, so I eat too much.
I will probably get fat....I mustn't eat too much !!

Omamori

Hello.
This is May in Japan.

I  introduced that I drew a fortune slip, last time.
When we go for a New Year's visit to a Shinto shrine, we buy Omamori.

Omamori means a good luck charm in Japanese.
There are so many kinds of  Omamori.
The academic achievement, the traffic safety, the recovery from illness, the greater purification...

We can buy Omamori that we want to pray.

I bought 2 kinds of charms at the shrine.
The recovery from illness and the greater purification.

Please protect me from that !!

This year's fortune

Hello.
This is May in Japan.

I went for a New Year's visit to a Shinto shrine the other day.
And I drew a fortune slip.

The written fortune said that this year's fortune would be "kichi" (good luck).
This result is not bad.

The written fortune also said that the wish comes true if I believe it.
That is very nice, isn't it?

But it had only one thing that it wasn't good.
The written fortune said that I shouldn't go on a trip.
Oh my god...I like traveling !!

This year's fortune has both advantages and disadvantages.

Nanakusa-gayu

Hello.
This is May in Japan.

Today is January 7th.
It is a day that Japanese people eat Nanakusa-gayu.
Nanakusa-gayu means the rice porridge containing the seven chopped vegetables.

It is a Japanese custom that people eat Nanakusa-gayu for breakfast on January 7th.
Today is "Jinjitsu", it is one of the 5 sekku that mark changes in the seasons.

People believe that they can spend this one year in a perfect state of health, when they eat Nanakusa-gayu.
To tell the truth, it isn't very delicious.
But we eat it to pray for a perfect state of health.
